Heavy rainfall in Kerala has triggered a landslide in Vattavada, Idukki district, killing two people and injuring a woman. The deceased have been identified as Balakrishna and Chinnu, while Balakrishna’s wife, Mariamma, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
Several parts of Kerala are experiencing the impact of intense rainfall, with landslides, waterlogging and flash-flood-like conditions reported in vulnerable areas. Authorities have increased monitoring and are preparing to evacuate residents from high-risk locations if necessary. The India Meteorological Department has forecast more heavy rain in parts of the state over the coming days.
Following the Idukki landslide, officials have stepped up relief and safety measures in the affected area. Idukki district’s minister in charge, Anoop Jacob, directed authorities to ensure the injured woman receives proper medical care. The state government has also said it will bear the cost of her treatment and provide financial assistance to the families of those who died.
With heavy rain expected to continue, authorities have urged residents to remain alert and avoid travelling through vulnerable hilly areas. Rescue and monitoring operations are being strengthened to respond quickly to further weather-related incidents.
